NC Speed Academy exists because somewhere someone isn't maximizing their athletic potential (specifically speed). This inefficiency lies in the fact that they have not been taught the proper technique. That is why we start with the youth. Giving these young athletes a strong foundation will make a world of difference no matter what sport they choose. Your child will learn form, gain strength, increase their speed and most importantly build confidence that will take them beyond the track and field. Let us take your athlete's potential to the next level.
Matthew Goodwin (Coach Matt) has been coaching youth in track and field for the Junior Olympics (USATF and AAU) since 1997 with Ames Impact Track Club in Iowa. He moved to North Carolina in the summer of 2009 and hit the ground running by launching NC Speed Academy. He ran track and played football for Iowa State University. After graduation, Coach Matt was able to play in the CFL (winning rookie of the year) and a short stint in the NFL.
His philosophy is to provide the youth he coaches with a strong foundation including correct running form to optimize performance and minimize injury. He stresses hard work and perseverance.
La Tosca Goodwin (Coach Tosca) has been coaching alongside Coach Matt since the 1997 track season. She ran the 100 hurdles for Iowa State University. In high school she was able to compete in almost every field event available. Coach Tosca has run in the Iowa Games and placed first in the hurdles, shot put, long jump and second in the 100 meter dash. She also placed first in the bench press competition both at the games and the Iowa State Fair.
She moved with Matt and their family to North Carolina and is presently working as head field events and hurdle coach for NC Speed Academy.
In her tenure as the head field events coach she has been able to qualify her long jumpers for Nationals every year.
